Conservative Party Conference 2025
Report by County Councillor Rachel Buckler (CPF Chairman, Monmouth Conservative Association)
This year’s Conservative Party Conference in Manchester was vibrant, energising and full of serious policy debate. From the moment we arrived, there was a clear sense of purpose among attendees. Grassroots members, councillors, MPs, and activists came together determined to set a confident, Conservative direction for the country.
A major theme throughout Conference was sovereignty and national decision-making — particularly the discussion around leaving the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). The packed session on Monday morning in the Think Tent made clear that this is now a serious and central policy direction. The debate was thoughtful, robust, and drew strong support from across the party.
One of the standout moments was the excellent address by Rt. Hon. Suella Braverman MP at the Global Prosperity Institute. She set out a clear, principled argument for why Britain must reclaim control of its legal framework. It was bold, intelligent, and unapologetically Conservative.

Kemi Badenoch’s exceptional speech was another highlight. She spoke with conviction and clarity, setting out priorities on economic growth, tax, immigration, and cultural confidence. The reaction in the hall was electric — she captured the mood of the party and reminded us why Conservative ideas matter.
There were also packed sessions with Robert Jenrick, who spoke with authority and conviction on immigration and national security, drawing significant grassroots support. In addition, the “Can UK aid help stop the boats?” discussion with Nadhim Zahawi and Andrew Mitchell offered practical policy solutions to complex global challenges, demonstrating the breadth of thinking within the party.
Across the Conference — from James Cleverly’s in-conversation sessions, to the lively Spectator Drinks, the Thatcher at 100 celebrations, and grassroots receptions including CANZUK and Welsh events — the enthusiasm was infectious. Delegates were animated, well-informed, and eager to take ideas home.
There is much to delve into and discuss. Over the coming weeks, we’ll be announcing dates for “Coffee and Conversation” and “Drinks and Conversation” events across Monmouthshire, where members can come together to explore the policies set out by Kemi and others at Conference.
The mood in Manchester was clear: we are Conservatives — and we are determined.
