Following a second defection from Labour to Independent amid bullying allegations and infighting, the ruling Labour group now has 19 seats, equalling the local Conservatives.

Monmouthshire Conservative Leader, Cllr Richard John, “This was a principled move from Cllr Jill Bond and we wish her well with her new group, well away from the toxic culture of bullying which appears to exist in the Labour Group.

“Monmouthshire Conservatives have a plan to get our county working again, by keeping taxes low, improving pothole repairs, ruling out a tourism tax and investing in frontline services.

“At next year’s local elections, it is clear that only the local Conservatives can get Labour out and stop Reform.”
